Join a team working to move from good intentions to coordinated action across Baltimore.

Why Baltimore’s Promise

Young people move through many different systems on their way toward adulthood, and those systems do not always move together. Our kids feel that gap firsthand. Baltimore's Promise connects partners, shares information honestly, aligns resources, and clarifies responsibility, working alongside public agencies, schools, employers, funders, community leaders, and young people themselves. We don’t replace the work already underway across Maryland. We help make that work coordinated, effective, and built to last.

Benefits + Commitment to our people

Baltimore’s Promise is committed to clear compensation practices, meaningful benefits, flexibility, professional growth, and time to rest.

Transparent compensation

Starting salaries are published in our job descriptions and are based on the responsibilities and authority of each position.

Salaries are not determined by prior pay, negotiation, pedigree, or professional networks. This approach is intended to reduce inequities tied to systemic racism, gender bias, and unequal access to career opportunities.

Health and financial benefits

Eligible employees receive:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • Paid parental leave

  • A retirement plan with an employer contribution of up to 4 percent after one year of employment

  • Eligibility for a cost-of-living adjustment when included in the approved organizational budget

  • Eligibility for an end-of-year staff bonus when included in the approved organizational budget

Paid time off

New full-time employees may accrue and use up to four weeks, or 160 hours, of paid time off.

Baltimore’s Promise also schedules paid organization-wide closures, including a Summer Pause, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Pause, and additional holidays during the year.

Hybrid work and professional support

Unless a position states otherwise, employees may use a hybrid schedule for work that does not require in-person participation.

Employees also receive a work laptop, a cell phone and internet stipend of up to $50 per month, and professional development opportunities.

Our Secret Sauce

Our team works across organizations with different goals, timelines, and responsibilities. That calls for good judgment, strong relationships, clear communication, and respect for the people closest to the work.

We value colleagues who can:

  • Work across differences

  • Listen closely and communicate clearly

  • Use data with context

  • Treat lived experience as expertise

  • Share responsibility

  • Follow through on commitments

  • Know when to lead and when to support others

We're building work meant to last beyond any one initiative, funding cycle, or leader, connecting the people, decisions, and resources that shape what's possible for young people in Baltimore and across Maryland.

All voices help shape the work

Young people are part of the decisions that affect them. Their experience and leadership inform strategy, funding, program design, and accountability, shaping how Baltimore's Promise listens, plans, and works with partners. Read Our Race Equity and Inclusion Statement.
